Martainville castle

Castle from the 15th century, classified as French Historic Monument

The castle is classified as National Heritage. It is made of pink bricks and is surrounded by ditches and gardens « à la française ».

The castle, built in 1485 by Jacques the first of Martainville, is one of the rare examples of the first Renaissance architecture in Normandy. It has been keeping its original inside arrangement. The visit of the castle can be completed with a visit of the dovecot, the bread oven and other outside annexes. It currently hosts the Traditions and Art of Normandy museum.

The museum of Traditions and Arts of Normandy was created in 1961 by the department council of Seine-Maritime. It shows a notable collection of regional furniture from the 15th century to the 19th century. The ethnographic section for Normandy is a reconstitution of farms made with objects and testimonies of the daily-life in the 18th and 19th centuries.

The last floor presents the large collection of Norman clothes and costumes through paintings, headdresses and jewels from the 19th century, as well as traditional music instruments made in Normandy. In the annex buildings, you can see an agricultural exhibition.
The museum has temporary exhibitions every year. Since 2014, a Renaissance garden was created in the rear side of the castle.

Open all year – Closed on Tuesday, Sunday morning and the following public holidays : January 1st, May 1st, Novembre 1st & 11th, December 25th. Groups on reservation.

  • 10am-12:30pm and 2pm-6pm (5pm from October 1st to March 31st).
  • Sunday 2pm-6:30pm (5:30pm from October 1st to March 31st).

  • Admission free: under 26, disabled people, job seekers and beneficiaries of social minima, inhabitants of the municipality of Martainville-Epreville, upon presentation of proof.

  • Guided tour: + 3 €, free for children under 18 years old.

Ferme de Rome museum

The Ferme de Rome museum is a major stage in Normandy, with more than 2000 objects, instruments and tools.

In a verdant environment, discover the popular Norman art about milk. There is a unique collection of old tools and many different objects. Popular Norman art, the cheese and butter as well as cider and calvados.
Opportunity to taste snacks such as pancakes, pies and cider and sale of farm products.
